Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for an Assistant Director of Sports Information.The position will collect and communicate department information to the media, campus and community.Perform sports information duties and media relations for intercollegiate athletics, recreational sports andthe National Training Site. Assist the Director of Sports Information in creating, designing, researching,writing and editing content for various forms of media (including print, radio, social media and web).Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Work experience in sports information, athletics mediarelations/public relations, sports journalism or graphic design.Required knowledge/skills/abilities: Working knowledge of sports. Working knowledge of technology.Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods whichincludes alternative ways to inform via written, oral, visual, social and other media types. Knowledge ofprinciples and methods for showing, promoting and selling products or services. Knowledge of principlesand processes for providing customer service. Excellent oral and written communication andcomprehension skills. Interpersonal skills. Technology use skills. Social perceptiveness skills-being awareof others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Time management skills. Ability to workirregular hours to cover events. Ability to multi-task.The position is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with evening and weekend workrequired.
