It is an exciting time to be at the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA).

GLWA employs hundreds of technical and administrative professionals, all working to provide drinking water and wastewater services of unquestionable quality to nearly 4 million people in more than 100 communities in southeastern Michigan.

GLWA is looking for a talented Director of Engineering for one of the largest Water Resource Recovery Facilities and some of the largest Combine Sewer Overflow facilities in North America.

In this role you will: * Lead, coach, and develop a talented team, to complete projects from inception to completion.* Manage, develop, and update the wastewater Capital Improvement Program (CIP) while aligning the delivery of projects in coordination with the needs of operations and maintenance of the facilities.

* Work closely with GLWA?s CIP Director to ensure that wastewater CIP project performance is in accordance with GLWA?s CIP Program Management Plan and is meeting the needs of the organization.* Provide direction to team based on general policies and management guidance and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.* Partner and collaborate with leadership team members on policy interpretation, activities, procedures, problems, and required action to ensure efficient and economic operations in compliance with policies, rules, laws, and legal provisions.* Identify, delineate, and propose solutions to difficult administrative challenges.

* Inspect facilities and operations to identify and prioritize response to problems.

* Develop standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent for project delivery.* Review and recommend action on policies and programs formulated by leadership in connection with operations.* Prepare and analyze relevant data including, but not limited to, statistics, cost, and work reports to evaluate efficiency, develop and coordinate plans and procedures to increase efficiency.* Lead, plan, assign, and direct work; assess performance; coach team members; address complaints and resolve problems.* Represent the organization and official contacts in public forums.* Develop an engineering delivery service that supports Operation and Maintenance.* Actively participate in Leadership meetings and engage Team Members in the design process.* Identify and present design information to project Stake Holders.* Develop and maintain both online and printed style reports to track department progress.

* This will include identifying and updating key performance indicators (KPIs).* Other relevant duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: * Exceptional communication, leadership, organizational, and employee engagement skills.* Professional working knowledge of water and/or wastewater operational requirements.* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.* Expertise in project management, contracts, and the ability to effectively allocate resources across multiple ongoing projects.* Ability to effectively present information to executive leadership teams, management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.* Advanced experience with planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of a large organization.* Data mining for process improvements and change initiatives.* Ability to create Drawings and Specifications and provide QA/QC reviews on design packages.

This includes both code review and design calculations to verify design.

* Deep experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Required Education & Experience: * Bachelor?s degree in engineering, chemistry, business administration, public administration, or related discipline.

* A minimum of five (5) years of recent and progressive managerial and administrative experience, including staffing, budgeting, project management, and operational experience in a specialty designation, preferably in connection with large-scale public or private operations.* Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan Environmental Working Requirements: Work is performed in a plant or office environment with exposure to computer screens, working in team offices, and closely with all staffing levels.

Work may be performed near open water, systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat-producing, and potentially explosive.

Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.

Other Requirements: Valid Michigan Driver?s License Ability to work irregular hours, commute to GLWA facilities and worksites, and respond to after-hour emergencies and on-call responses.
