Job Description
In our pursuit to create a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, GM’s global manufacturing engineering team is challenging the limits on what is possible and embracing agility as it reimagines how to build the next generation of vehicles. Our diverse team of manufacturing engineers play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies. From raw sheet metal to final assembly, this team is reinventing the tools and processes that will enable GM to deliver on our promise to create an all-electric future.
The battery cell group develops and implements innovative processes that enable robust manufacturing for battery cell assemblies. This Warren, Michigan-based position offers the opportunity to leverage solid manufacturing engineering experience to develop and implement new processes for the manufacturing of advanced battery cell technologies

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing Engineer primary responsibilities:
    • Responsible for writing equipment specifications, procuring, qualification of equipment and installation of new ME lab equipment.
    • Interface with Product Engineering to ensure design supports robust ME assembly processes.
    • Participate in PDT and Core technical reviews with development partners.
    • Support current production execution team activities and lead future development work.
    • Manage routine problem solving activities around build and assembly in the cell battery laboratory.
    • Develop and maintain necessary documentation (JES/TIS, PFD, PAD’s, PFMEA)
    • Develop in-house processes and tooling to improve quality and throughput
    • Lead Continuous Improvement Engineering Activities
    • Perform root cause analysis, develop solutions, implement corrective action plans on the floor and component suppliers
    • Apply Lean Principles in lab design and layout
    • Analyze first time quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red-X, Design of Experiments or DFSS.

    Additional Job Description

    • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with minimum 3 years of experience.
    • Knowledge of equipment specification and qualification
    • Experience with tooling design
    • High level of oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong mechanical skills
    • Candidate who enjoys working on equipment – hands on
    • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently while exhibiting solid technical judgement and good project management skills.


    • Ability to think outside the box and provide creative new solution ideas
    • Statistical problem solving training
    • Proficient in working in development environment
    • Experience developing manufacturing processes

    Additional Information:

    • Travel requirements – up to 10% (including international travel)
    • Job geographical location – Warren, Michigan (primary 90%); Right to work in U.S. without sponsorship
