Press Operator

This is a 12 hour rotating work schedule.

Job Description

  • Completes all work tasks during make-readies and other press downtime situations.
  • Assists with the webbing up of the printing press.
  • Adjusts folder controls to properly maintain accurate fold.
  • Monitors product quality for color, register, perf or litho slit, glue and samples requirements and readjusts guides and controls to rectify errors. Reports any unmanageable print or press defects to the Head Press Operator or Supervisor.
  • Monitors product waste.
  • Assists with the removal of waste ink, used printing plates, and press side garbage
  • Changes slip-sheets at the printing units.
  • Manually dips ink into printing press when needed.
  • Cleans press water systems and changes filters.
  • Operates press splicer.
  • Keeps presses stocked with needed supplies.
  • Replaces worn or damaged disposable parts.
  • Completes cleaning program assignments.
  • Assists with manual signature stacking when needed.
  • Completes preventive maintenance assignments.
  • Assists the Head Press Operator with training and development of co-workers.
  • Develops job skill levels and equipment knowledge necessary for advancement.
  • Assists the Head Press Operator with maintaining accurate record keeping, press time sheets and other logs or forms.
  • Assists the Head Press Operator in planning and delegating work assignments.
  • Performs the Head Press Operator responsibilities when needed.
  • Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prefer completion of Press Assistant Training Level 3 and/or one year of press-related experience.
  • Good mechanical ability.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Intermediate reading and writing skills.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Heavy clean-up, must not be afraid to get dirty.
  • Desire to learn and complete training levels.
  • Must pass color vision test, lift at least 50 pounds, climb up to 25′ and work a 12-hour rotating shift with overtime requirements.
