In our pursuit to create a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, GM’s Global Manufacturing Engineering team is challenging the limits on what is possible and embracing agility as it reimagines how to build the next generation of vehicles. Our diverse team of Manufacturing Engineers play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies. From raw sheet metal to final assembly, this team is reinventing the tools and processes that will enable GM to deliver on our promise to create an all-electric future.

The GM Automotive Manufacturing Electrical College, or AMEC, is an immersive training program that provides participants the opportunity to train in both classroom and hands-on settings for future employment on a Launch Electrical Team at one of GM’s vehicle assembly facilities.

The PPO Electrical Diagnostician is responsible for supporting technicians in problem solving and repairing electrical and software issues for mule and IV builds in the electrical crib and End of Line vehicle programming/Static/Dynamic tests. They will also support Integration Vehicles built in Assembly plants as well as other Plant Launch Build events (i.e. APPV, PPV, MVNSB etc….) when required/requested. The E.D. will also be the Electronic Easel Board and PRC Champion for all issues identified on the builds documented in PRTS. A high level of independent judgment and initiative is required.

  • Support pre-production build activities at PPO and assembly plants
  • Monitor End of Line Test results during vehicle IV / Plant Launch phase builds and assist in investigation of issues.
  • Lead root-cause effort for problem resolution on Vehicle programing and functional issue.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers
  • Perform electrical updates on IV Plant Launch phase vehicles
  • Perform more complex tests or diagnostics on vehicles or components
  • Program and interrogate vehicle controllers for software updates and diagnostics
  • Recommend revisions to product or component design and documents and manages issue analysis and issue promotion in GM’s appropriate systems (PRTS)
  • Supports execution of BSD electrical reworks
  • Supports execution of the EVC process in PPO and off-site locations
  • Supporting resolution of hardware, software, calibration, material and release issues during the EVC phases
  • Supporting VeSCoM release implementation break points
  • Travels to build site for the IV / Plant Launch phase builds, International Travel could be required.
  • Supports training of Production Plant EOL diagnosticians and DVT Coordinators on new launch content
  • Participates in and/or coordinates cross-functional teams to assist problem solving/resolution as well as prepare for future IV build events.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with common electrical test equipment (meter, scopes, etc.)
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Experience with serial data communication protocols (GMLAN, MOST, LIN, etc.)
  • Experience with GM Electrical Architecture
  • Experience with common serial data test equipment (NeoVI, DiComPhySys – DPS Tool, etc.)
  • Experience with automotive electrical systems and functional sub-systems
  • Experience with Electrical Vehicle Systems (Hybrid, BEV, Autonomous etc)
  • Experience with PRTS; SPPS; eSAP

Education and Training:

  • Candidate should have demonstrated knowledge and/or certifications in vehicle programming, diagnostics, trouble-shooting and automotive repair technology
