Community Engagement Coordinator

About us

HAVEN is Oakland County’s only comprehensive program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year.

Position Summary:

HAVEN’s Community Engagement Coordinator will lead community outreach and social change efforts to increase access to HAVEN programs within marginalized communities and improve responses to sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Outreach efforts will include building connections with local community leaders and organizations, listening to individuals and survivors, and planning and executing community awareness programs and events that are reflective of survivors and community needs.

Position Qualifications:

· Outgoing personality and ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds

· Excellent listening skills

· Ability to creatively plan and execute community programs and initiatives

· Ability to identify community needs and develop programs to help address them

· Basic understanding of sexual assault and intimate partner violence dynamics

· Organized and able to manage multiple projects in a timely fashion

· Ability to facilitate programs and discussions

· Ability to work independently and within a team

· Able to work some evenings and weekends

· Proficient in Microsoft suite, Google documents and Google forms

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in community organizing
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating community events
  • Must be able to travel throughout Oakland County and the surrounding communities
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license

Preferred education and experience

  • Bilingual or multilingual
  • Experience in conducting sexual assault and intimate partner violence prevention or awareness programs
  • Experience providing immediate support to people in crisis
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence
  • Previous experience in conducting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives

Responsibilities:

· Coordinate outreach and community engagement efforts to marginalized communities

· Work alongside community leaders and partners to improve responses to sexual assault and intimate partner violence

· Facilitate community awareness and social change programs and trainings

  • Collaborate on HAVEN programs and initiatives designed to activate and engage men in the movement to end sexual assault and intimate partner violence
  • Collaborate with existing community programs to further integrate HAVEN’s prevention education platform into community spaces
  • Represent HAVEN at specified conferences, functions, events, committees, and help to provide community awareness through programming, tabling, and other community initiatives
  • Work alongside HAVEN’s diversity, equity and inclusion committee to ensure that our internal processes reflect community needs, and that our external communications are consistent with HAVEN’s diversity, equity and inclusion value and mission
  • Maintain accurate data and records of service delivered
  • Enter and complete pre/posttest surveys and evaluations reports to analyze program impact
