Back End Developer II

This is a Full-time position in Ann Arbor, MI posted November 20, 2021.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

A Back-End Developer II handles the design, development, code review and testing of key internal applications across multiple functional departments at IHA. This position collaborates with other Back-End and Front-End Developers to create web applications. This position is also responsible for developing integrations with relational databases, building high-quality reusable code, and building/working with deployment processes. A Back-End Developer II also provides training, help and support to Back-End Developer I’s. A working knowledge and prior use of version control is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Handles the design, development, code reviews and testing of key internal applications.
  2. Works with Back-End and Front-End Developers to create web applications that meet the needs of IHA .
  3. Develops integrations with databases.
  4. Writes code that:
    1. Performs the intended purpose.
    2. Follows a consistent style decided on as a team.
    3. Is easy to read, understand and aligns with good standards.
    4. Is well-documented.
    5. Is reusable when appropriate.
    6. Can be tested.
  5. Works with end-to-end deployment processes.
  6. Works with the IHA Security Officer and IHA Compliance Officer on HIPAA compliance pertaining to software information services.
  7. Maintains system security and integrity of applications developed and maintained by the software development team.
  8. Completes special projects and other duties as needed.
  9. Provides training, help and support to Back-End Developer I’s.
  10. Responsible for performing and maintaining testing implementation processes.
  11. Performs peer code-review.
  12. Builds and maintains APIs.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: None

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : 3 years of relevant development experience.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

  1. Experience in Node.js, Express.js development.
  2. Working knowledge of Mongo.
  3. Some understanding of authentication processes.
  4. Some relational database expertise (SQL).
  5. Some experience with testing implementation.
  6. Some understanding of and ability to implement end-to-end deployment.
  7. Strong programming skills in modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  8. Experience with Git or other version control technologies.
  9. Working knowledge of Agile or DevOps development processes.
  10. Sufficient knowledge of mathematics to perform position responsibilities.
  11. Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including but not limited to, information systems software, Microsoft Word and Excel (expert-level), intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required while performing the essential functions of the job.
  12. Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette. Ability to speak before groups of people, either in-person or virtual. Ability to develop clear user instructions and/or communicate changes/upgrades to applications and systems.
  13. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; displays courteous and friendly demeanor.
  14. Ability to work effectively with various levels of organizational members and diverse populations including IHA staff and leadership, providers, insurance carriers, hospitals and system vendors.
  15. Ability to cross-train in other areas of department in order to achieve smooth flow of all operations.
  16. Good organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities and time constraints.
  17. Ability to exercise sound judgement and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot application errors and identify solutions to correct issues.
  18. Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner.
  19. Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period.
  20. Ability to provide training, help, and support to Back-End Developer I’s and other team members where appropriate.
  21. Ability to drive to other office/practice sites and meeting and training locations.
  22. Ability to manage or deploy solutions in cloud-based environments is preferred, but not require
  23. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face for long periods of time in English.
