Nurse Mgr LTC (Farmington Hills/Dearborn) GENERAL SUMMARY: To manage nursing functions on a 24-hour basis, and to assist the Director of Nursing in the overall planning, organizing, evaluation and operation of the Long Term Acute Care floor in accordance with BCHC’s policies, standards of practices and government regulations, so as to provide and maintain excellent quality of care of all the resident’s needs.


Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the delivery of nursing care on the Dementia floor which may include departmental documentation on medical records; nursing supplies; ancillary supplies or services; care plans; MDS’s; Skin Care Program; Restraint Reduction; Nutrition; Fall Prevention; and Behavioral Programs; Light Duty program; selection, training and orientation of new employees; communicate policies, evaluate performance, redirect and discipline as needed.


Work with or support the Director of Nursing, Administrator and consultants in planning all aspects of nursing services to include interface with other disciplines and departments.

May assist the DON to monitor day-to-day operation of the Dementia nursing function, and to establish priorities and manage records, budgets or supplies.


Assist or support the DON in managing nursing care to include monitoring quality of care and resident activity, assessment of resident’s status, administration of medication and treatments, admissions and discharges; and to consult with family members, physicians and other Health Care professionals.


Fills-in as Charge Nurse or other nursing positions as needed with limited or full authority as appropriate.


Supports and assists the DON to ensure compliance with State, Federal, and BCHC’s QA standards, to include alerting management to potential non-compliance issues, and preparation of plans of correction.


Ensures understanding of and compliance with all rules regarding resident rights.


Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written plan of care for individual residents that addresses the needs the resident.


Supervise, conduct and participate in in-service training; assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training; maintain professional competence.


Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety, fire and disaster, infection control and all other departmental cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.


Exemplifies high standards of customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers, co-workers, and subordinates.


Ensures customer service and performance standards are established and maintained in his/her area of responsibility.


Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and a valid State of Michigan license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse.


Minimum Work Experience: Five to seven years progressively more responsible clinical nursing experience.


Contacts with Others: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other employees.

Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.


Analytical Demands: Requires problem solving and mediation skills to handle employees and patient concerns.

Requires ability to assess needs for appropriate resource utilization and budget accordingly.


Certification, Licensure, Registration: Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan.
